Hello, families!
I hope your student has been enjoying school. We are now starting to get very comfortable with one another, and with that comes new behaviors :)
Our reading block has been PHENOMENAL. Kids are self-directed and focused the whole time. Our reading rotations are smooth and so quiet-- I am very impressed with what they have been able to do.
Math has officially started this week as well. We (Leitschuh, Golbon, and Tollas) all start with a Core lesson with our homerooms, and then break out into differentiated groups to help spread our support staff more evenly. These rotations aren't as smooth as reading, but we also have math at the end of the day. Please assume that your student has math homework EVERY DAY. We are only requiring that students do the homework side, and the remembering side is optional. We have also started learning more math card games-- ask your student to show you. Something I have noticed about many students is that we have some trouble with math facts. The faster we can do multiplication/division, the better. This will make all of the new material they learn this year easier as they won't be stuck on a single-digit multiplication problem.
Thank you for all that you do!
Katie
